Cancun receives first flights from Europe after almost 6 months

The first flights from Europe are now arriving in Cancun as demand continues to grow for the Caribbean destination.

After more than six months without a single flight from Europe, Cancun welcomed Lufthansa flight LH514 from Frankfurt, Germany with 260 passengers on board.

Lufthansa’s Director General for Mexico, Felipe Bonifatti and Cancun tourism officials welcomed Flight 514 from Frankfurt at the Cancun International Airport on Thursday, October 1st.

Lufthansa will be flying to the sun soaked destination of Cancun twice weekly from Frankfurt and adding a third flight before the end of October.

“Returning to Cancun is a great step for Lufthansa Group as well as for the world-class tourist destination that is Quintana Roo. The demand for vacation travel is increasing and we are proud to be the first European airline to return to the Mexican Caribbean. Our commitment to Mexico and its people is clear and firm. Thank you Quintana Roo for welcoming us once more”

Cancun Continues To See Strong Tourism Growth

They say being first has its perks. When it comes to Cancun, that couldn’t be more true. Cancun was the very first destination to reopen for tourism to the world back on June 8th, 2020.

In its first month alone, Cancun International Airport received over 70,000 tourists. While Cancun was originally restricted to only 30% capacity at its hotels, it recently announced that it was moving to the second phase of reopening which would allow for a 60% occupancy rate.
